What's going to happen at Peace Camp (in Parent-Speak):

Peace Camp promotes respect, justice, communication, teamwork and leadership.
Your child will be having so much fun, he or she may not even realize they are building
up skills to help them confront bullying, find peaceful resolutions to conflict, apply
creativity to challenges, and develop courage.
Opportunities abound for children of many temperaments.
Peace Camp is Challenge by Choice.
We encourage each individual to challenge themselves to participate with the group to
gain the most from camp, also allowing for independent time & autonomy.
Campers work in all-camp and small groups.
K –3rd grades work on what they already know about peace, break down stereotypes,
improve communication, and encourage values-based decision making. They will get
creative, and work on in- and out-of-the-box skills to make the world
a more peaceful place.
4th– 8th grades incorporate the themes of our younger campers in greater depth.
There are opportunities to apply broad critical thinking skills, initiate peace action and
lead groups. An expanded world-view allows our older campers to make deep and
powerful peace choices.

Who’s At Peace Camp:

Sixty campers entering Kindergarten through Eighth Grade can attend each Peace
Camp session.   The Camp Director and lead staff have years of experience in childcare,
education, camping, counseling, mediation and peace action.  Counselors are trained
and experienced youth, men and women over 16 years of age.  Children will be
supervised at all times.  Counselors-In-Training will assist counselors.

Who Else?  CITs!:

Counselor-In-Training (CIT) is available for 14 and 15 year old youth.  CITs are
supervised by lead counselors.  CITs learn about mediation, group dynamics and
caregiving through practical interaction with campers.  CITs must complete an
interview with camp directors prior to acceptance into the program.  CITs will be
expected to attend a training.   This is a volunteer program.

Before and After Care:

Before Care and After Care is available for campers.
Before Care is available from 8:00—9:00am and After Care is available from 3:30—5:
00pm  Counselors will be available for structured care.
